Bill Ismay

Bill played basketball and baseball at Sabino HS in Tucson, AZ, and played baseball at Yavapai College and the University of San Diego. He coached baseball for 5 years at Madison High School in San Diego, and has coached Keizer youth basketball and baseball the past 20 years. Bill works at the Oregon Health Authority, and enjoys spending time with his wife Lisa and sons Kyle and Matthew, both McNary grads.

Henry Rogers

My name is Henry Rogers and I am an assistant boys basketball coach at McNary High School. This is my second year at coaching high school basketball and my first year at McNary. Before working at McNary, I was an assistant at Crosshill Christian HS.

I am married to Anna Rogers, who works at Sprague High School as an employment specialist. We are currently expecting a girl in March and we are both excited about her arrival.

Marc McAvoy

Coach McAvoy started coaching in 1982 and has coached and played at all levels including youth, high school, college, and in Europe. He has had the opportunity to travel to South America, Africa, and Europe on basketball mission trips as a player and coach.

He has lived and worked in the Salem/Keizer area since 1991 and taught PE, Health, and French and coached softball, volleyball, basketball, and tennis.

He is currently the Behavior Specialist at Claggett Creek Middle School.

He has a wife, Susie, and three kids who are now in their 20’s, Nick, Lucy, and Tim. His hobbies include, traveling, rafting, swimming, and spending time with his family.

Matt Murphy

Coach Murphy enters his 3rd year coaching here at McNary. He started as the head freshman coach, and has been an assistant on JV/Varsity for the last 2 seasons. The success that the Celtic basketball program has achieved in the last two seasons makes Murphy very excited for this upcoming season. Murphy graduated from Sandy High School and attended Western Oregon University where he graduated with a degree in Psychology. During his free time, coach Murphy enjoys traveling with his wife to new places (in the past three years they have been to Aruba, Ireland, Puerto Rico, and Indonesia), spending time outdoors with their dogs, and playing in his men’s basketball league. Coach Murphy is an avid basketball fan and loves being a part of the McNary basketball program.

Ryan "Q"

Q is entering his third year as Director of Basketball Operations. He was varsity manager for 8 years at Mountain View High School in Bend, Oregon. Q graduated from Corban University with a degree in Exercise Science. He loves to play different sports such as soccer, tennis, and basketball. He has enjoyed watching players come through the program and hope they continue their success. Q has wanted to travel and see other cultures. He is currently an AVID Tutor at McNary and also works at Rise services. He is excited to be a part of the staff and hopes to get more coaching experience this season. 

Ryan Kirch

Coach Kirch enters his 8th season as head coach of the Celtics, and 18 year coaching overall. Kirch graduated from Oregon State University in 2002 and Western Oregon University in 2007.  He is in his fifth year as a Social Studies teacher at McNary.

Kirch's Celtic teams have finished in the top 3 of the league the past 5 seasons, with league championships in 2015 and 2018.  Kirch was named GVC Coach of the Year in 2018.  In addition, his teams have had a team average of 3.64 GPA over the same 5 year period, while winning the GPA state championship in 4 of those 5 seasons.  

Kirch believes that basketball is an extension of the classroom and that our role as coaches is to develop not only the player, but more importantly, the person. The boys basketball program focuses on academic support, character development, and leadership opportunities, while competing at the highest level possible.

Coach Kirch and his wife Shawna love being involved in the Keizer community. Off the court they enjoy traveling, staying active, and enjoying times with family and friends.

Wally Wing

Wally is a Physical Education Specialist at Gubser Elementary School. He has taught and coached elementary, middle, high school, and college students over the past 30 years, spending 22 of those years at Willamette University as assistant men’s basketball coach. Wally enjoys fishing, floating rivers, crabbing, and many other outdoor activities in the beautiful pacific northwest. He and his wife Margot have two grown children and a new grandson.
